Local Language Tips


There are a lot of different languages spoken in the Philippines although "Filipino" (or Tagalog) is spoken everywhere, as is English. But the language spoken in Bohol is a dialect of "Visaya", which is used throughout the Visayas region (stangely enough!). Visaya is spoken in Bohol, Cebu, Leyte, Siquijor, parts of Mindanao & Negros.

If you really want to learn Visaya, its possible to buy various dictionaries and phrase books in the National Book Store. Alternatively, the much more satisfying way to learn any language is to hang out with locals and just try!
